Now that we know about the Norwegian adjectives, we can learn how to use them to compare the quality of nouns. See the example below:
Positiv Komparativ Superlativ
fin 

Bilen min er fin.

My car is nice.

finere 

Bilen min er finere enn din.

My car is nicer than yours.

finest 

Bilen min er finest.

My car is the nicest.

You can see the comparative adjectives marked in bold in the above example. Check the English translations so you can understand how they are used in the sentences.

Note that the superlativ form can change a bit based on comparisons as shown below.

Bilen min er ny

My car is new.

Bilen min er nyere enn din. 

My car is newer than yours.

Bilen min er nyeste i hele byen. 

My car is the newest in the whole town.

As you can see above, an may be added to the adjective in the superlativ form.

 

Here are some rules you can follow when using adjectives for comparison.

1. Most of the adjectives are used for comparison as shown below.

2. Adjectives ending in ig do not use an e in the superlativ as shown below.

3. Some adjectives change vowels in the komparativ and superlativ forms as shown below.

4. Some adjectives change completely between the comparative forms as shown below.

5. Some adjectives are too large to add any endings. So they are used with mer or mest as shown below.
