But first let us look at the regular way of using pronouns. This is used when we speak with people we are familiar or friendly with.
Norwegian | English |
Vil du sitte? | Will you sit? |
Vil du sette deg? | Will you seat yourself? |
Er det bilen din? | Is it your car? |
Er det veska di? | Is it your purse? |
Er det huset ditt? | Is it your house? |
Er det avisene dine? | Are they your newspapers? |
Now let us look at the polite way of using pronouns. This is used when we speak with people we aren’t familiar with for example, when we meet people for the first time or we are meeting the President!

Vil De sitte? | Will you sit? |
Vil De sette Dem? | Will you seat yourself? |
Er det bilen Deres? | Is it your car? |
Er det veska Deres? | Is it your purse? |
Er det huset Deres? | Is it your house? |

Note that in the polite form of the pronoun, we tend to use the plural form of the pronoun starting with a capital letter.
