As shown above, den, det, de are used when we want to point out to something that is far away. Denne, dette, disse are used to point out to something that is near by. Below are some examples that should make things clearer.

Den bilen er min.
That car is mine.
Den boka er min.
That book is mine.
Det huset er mitt.
That house is mine.
De bilene er mine.
Those cars are mine.
Denne bilen er min.
This car is mine.
Denne boka er min.
This book is mine.
Dette huset er mitt.
This house is mine.
Disse bilene er mine.
These cars are mine.
